Waves crash against a natural arch in Pacific Grove, CA

A collection of some of the beautiful scenery that I have been able to explore.
Many of these photos feature Marine Protected Areas, an incredible aspect of marine conservation, which affords protection for entire ecosystems. There are a few types of Marine Protected Areas, each with varying levels of restrictions and protections for the waters and creatures within them. State Marine Reserves are a type of MPA that do not allow any “take” (fishing, collecting, hunting, or capturing organisms) while other types of MPAs, such as State Marine Conservation Areas and Special Closures may allow “take” of certain species. By protecting an entire ecosystem, a wide variety of species are protected and allowed to flourish. Each Marine Protected Area was carefully chosen to protect a unique and important ecosystem, and can help replenish fish and other populations that have been depleted.
